Cabinet Office Diversity & Equality

Delivering high-quality Equality & Diversity training

The brief

The Cabinet Office People Strategy commits the organisation to investing in everyone by offering a high-quality learning and development package.

The need for Equality & Diversity training has been identified as a result of:

  • The Capability Re-reviews of the Cabinet Office
  • The Cabinet Office internal ‘People Survey’
  • The business’s assessment of current and future workforce requirements

In relation to Diversity & Equal Opportunities the areas to be developed were evident within:

  • Managing and valuing people
  • Leading and Teamworking
  • Focusing on customers and stakeholders

The priority target population for this training consisted of:

  • Managers who needed to be equipped to work with their staff to improve their people management capability
  • Individuals for personal development as well as skills training

The solution

We devised an innovative approach in the design and delivery of the content of the programme to ensure that delivery was engaging and interactive

The eventual blended programme consisted of two elements:

  • A pre-course workbook covering current equality and diversity-related legislation and legal terminology in this area. The workbook contained a quiz to help delegates assess their level of understanding
  • A highly practical and interactive one-day workshop which:
    • clarified the delegates’ understanding of major aspects of equality legislation and terminology and examined the rationale behind effective Equality and Diversity practices and procedures
    • analysed the impact of prejudice and discrimination in the workplace
    • identified the links between attitudes, behaviour, assumptions, stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, exploring good practice in the work-place
    • improved their understanding of harassment and bullying and their impact on individuals

The verdict

Feedback from the participants both at the end of the event and after three months was extremely positive.

In particular, participants found the pre-workshop assignment very beneficial in adding to their knowledge and understanding and they rated the trainer very highly for an excellent style of delivery and outstanding subject knowledge.

In an unsolicited response the client said “Thank you both. It is truly a pleasure doing business with your company
