NHS CfH(Connecting for Health) – an efficient mass migration

NHS CfH(Connecting for Health) asked Bray Leino BroadSkill to help train 2,000 computer users on new systems -without any disruption to daily business.

The brief

Bray Leino BroadSkill was asked to design a range of e-learning solutions to educate some 2,000 users in new systems and software introduced by the ICT team at NHS CfH.

The challenges

The move to new systems would ultimately give 2,000 users easier access to email and voicemail, while making it easier to search for documents. However the priority was to make sure that the mass migration to eight new systems took place without any disruption to everyday business.Users would be empowered by being trained to use technology correctly, while changing the culture of email usage was also important.

The solution

A group of some 80 super users were trained in the eight new systems through methods including e-learning, demonstrations and access to live software. In turn, they would show their colleagues how to use the systems.

The execution

We created 15 small modules to explain the use of the new systems. Subjects ranged from a demonstration of how to access the system, to using a mock-up system to correctly locate information. The training, produced as Flash files, gave feedback and guidance on the correct navigational processes to follow, ensuring consistency and best practice.

The verdict

As a direct result of the training, super users had the knowledge and confidence both to use the new systems themselves, and to promote them to their colleagues. Approximately 95% of super users got 100 % of the proof of learning exercises correct.

  • 80 super users were trained by e-learning in order to teach 2,000 users on new systems
  • We deployed a range of tools including blended learning, facilitators, e-learning through demonstrations and access to live software
  • Online learning housed on the NHS CfH intranet meant managers, finance staff and other groups could easily find information about the new systems
  • Staff who wanted to could also refresh their knowledge quickly using the e-learning system
